The U.S. Embassy in Cairo is celebrating former U.S. President Jimmy Carter’s 100th birthday with an exhibit entitled, “Jimmy Carter: 100 Years of Uniting People.” On Monday September 30, U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Evyenia Sidereas attended the opening ceremony of the exhibit that included a film screening of “Jimmy Carter: Rock and Roll President,” a documentary film that explores President Carter’s life-long passion for music.
The exhibit at Falaki Theater Mainstage and Gallery, at the American University in Cairo’s (AUC) Tahrir Campus will be open to the public October 1-10.
U.S. Embassy Cairo would like to thank its partners AUC, the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum, and the Carter Center. The embassy’s American Center Cairo (ACC) organized the event.
At the opening ceremony, DCM Sidereas said, “President Jimmy Carter’s life has been dedicated to bringing the world’s people closer together, especially the people of Egypt and the United States.
While President Carter has been a tireless advocate for humanitarian causes and a champion of human rights around the world, he also focused his attention on the challenges and flaws within the United States, challenging racism and poverty in his native state of Georgia and around our country. We are proud to celebrate his life and legacy today.”
The “Jimmy Carter: 100 Years of Uniting People” exhibit, focuses on President Carter’s contributions to the enduring U.S.-Egypt partnership that continues to grow and thrive more than forty years after his presidency.
The photographic exhibit features images from his life, including his work with President Sadat on the Camp David Accords and his visits to Egypt.
The photo exhibit is open to the public October 1-10 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday-Thursday, at the Falaki Gallery (24 Falaki St. American University in Cairo, Downtown Campus)
