The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) is gearing up for its next big milestone: trial operations of its Main Galleries, kicking off on October 16th, 2024! Visitors will get an exclusive sneak peek into 12 curated exhibition halls, giving them a taste of what’s to come before the official grand opening.
The galleries promise a journey through ancient Egyptian history, covering everything from prehistoric times to the Roman era. You’ll get to explore how kings, society, and beliefs intertwined in a way that shaped Egypt’s iconic legacy. Whether you’re all about chronology or prefer to dive into specific themes, the museum offers the flexibility to create a personalized experience that fits your style.
Besides the Main Galleries, there’s plenty more to check out, like the Children’s Museum, beautiful outdoor gardens, and a commercial area packed with restaurants, cafés, and shops showcasing top Egyptian brands. The Hanging Obelisk and the Grand Hall, featuring colossal statues like King Ramesses II, are just some of the treasures waiting to greet you.
Don’t miss the Grand Staircase either—it’s a royal spectacle with over 60 statues and monuments that’ll make you feel like you’ve stepped into ancient Egypt. However, note that the Tutankhamun Galleries are still off-limits until the official opening.
This trial phase is part of GEM’s ongoing effort to fine-tune the visitor experience, building on the success of its soft openings and private tours since 2022. Stay tuned—this is just the beginning!
