In a tragic incident, a shark attacked and consumed a 24-year-old Russian tourist in the Red Sea, south of Egypt, leading to his immediate death.

It was revealed that the shark attacked the tourist group, consumed the Russian tourist, and severed his body in half. One half of the body was retrieved, while the authorities are still searching for the other half.

The Russian Embassy stated in a statement, “On June 8, a man died as a result of a shark attack in the Dream Beach area (Hurghada), and in this regard, we request Russian citizens to be vigilant and cautious while in the water.”

The embassy urged citizens to strictly adhere to the swimming and diving ban imposed by the Egyptian authorities and to strictly follow the instructions given by hotel staff and coastguards.

A senior official from the Red Sea Governorate headed to the scene of the incident to assess the situation and coordinate efforts to deal with the incident.

The authorities in the governorate raised the state of alertness, exerting intensive efforts to search for the killer shark, analyze the causes of the incident, and take necessary measures to enhance safety and security in the maritime waters of the governorate.

It is worth mentioning that the Egyptian authorities closed an area of the country’s Red Sea coast a year ago, following an attack by a shark that resulted in the death of an Austrian tourist who was swimming near a resort in the city of Hurghada.

An Egyptian health official said that the 68-year-old woman, who lost a leg and an arm in the shark attack, died shortly after being taken to a private hospital in Hurghada.

He added that the tourist was barely alive when she was admitted to the hospital, and the medical team’s attempts to revive her failed.
