In a deeply shocking incident, a first-year student at Port Said Mechanical Boys’ School, Mohamed Omar Mahran, was fatally stabbed by a classmate on Sunday morning. The young student was reportedly attacked within the school premises, turning what should be a place of learning into a scene of tragedy.
Incident Details
According to sources, the fatal altercation occurred early in the school day. Witnesses report that Mahran, the victim, was involved in a dispute with his classmate, identified as A.N.A., near the school restroom. The disagreement escalated when the alleged perpetrator pulled out a concealed weapon and delivered a fatal stab to Mahran’s heart, leaving him gravely injured on the school floor.
Medical Response and Confirmation of Death
Dr. Mohamed Mohsen, Director of Al-Zohour Hospital under Port Said’s comprehensive health insurance system, confirmed that Mahran arrived in critical condition. Despite immediate and intensive efforts by the medical team to save him, the student succumbed to his injuries due to severe blood loss, cardiac arrest, and a rapid drop in blood circulation. Mahran’s untimely death has left both his family and the community in profound shock and mourning.
Administrative and Legal Actions
Following the incident, Taher El-Gharbawy, Director of the Port Said Education Directorate, took decisive action by dismissing the school principal from his post. Upon visiting the school with a central monitoring team, legal department officials, and technical staff, El-Gharbawy ordered an investigation into the roles of all supervising staff and teachers involved at the time of the incident. A temporary administrative team has been appointed to manage school operations until investigations conclude.
The police have registered an official report, and the public prosecution is actively investigating the incident. The student’s body has been placed in the hospital’s morgue under the prosecution’s jurisdiction. Additionally, General Diaa Zamel, Director of Port Said Investigations, has mobilized a team to expedite the apprehension of the suspect, identify the full circumstances surrounding the attack, and implement all necessary legal proceedings.
Witness and Family Testimonies
A witness, a school supervisor, recounted to investigators that the two students had been engaged in a conversation near the restrooms before a heated argument erupted. The accused then reportedly brandished a weapon and delivered a fatal blow to Mahran’s chest before fleeing the scene.
In a heartrending statement, Mahran’s mother shared her last moments with him, describing how she had given him his allowance and wished him success that morning, unaware it would be their final interaction. She described her son as hardworking, often assisting his father at their family-owned café on the beach, and attending school twice weekly. Overcome with grief, she demanded justice for her son, who, she emphasized, was her only son among her four children and was on the brink of celebrating his birthday this month.
Education Ministry’s Response and New Security Measures
The tragic loss has drawn a response from the Ministry of Education. Minister Mohamed Abdel-Latif extended his condolences to the student’s family, stressing that the ministry would ensure student safety and a secure educational environment in all schools across the country. He warned that the ministry would take strict measures against any violations by students, staff, or officials and announced immediate steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The Education Directorate has mandated that all Port Said schools increase security and monitoring of students. Directorate head El-Gharbawy has instructed administrators to conduct student checks upon entry and maintain a strong supervisory presence during school hours.
As the investigation proceeds, public prosecution officials are working diligently to uncover all relevant details. The incident has cast a spotlight on school safety, with the Education Directorate pledging to enhance security protocols and accountability in Port Said schools.
