In time with “Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo” being in the main competition in a number of festivals in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Belgium, Iraq and Tunisia, its official trailer releases on all platforms ahead of its widely anticipated release; coming to cinemas in Egypt on 1/1/2025 and across the Arab world on 9/1/2025.
The official trailer highlights the story of Hassan, a young man in his thirties who rediscovers himself on a quest to save his dog and best friend Rambo.
He is forced to confront the fears of his past. Hence, Hassan seeks to save himself and Rambo from an unknown fate after getting involved in a serious incident without guilt. Overnight, his neighbour, Karem, as well as the residents of the neighbourhood, start chasing him. It also sheds light on multiple details in Hassan’s life and his relationship with those around him.
The film’s lead star, Essam Omar stated,
“Hassan lives with the trauma of his father’s absence. The idea of abandonment is the key to his character, for his father abandoned him during childhood. That’s why he is introverted and doesn’t talk much. His emotions are all internal; there is no external showcase.
However, he doesn’t want to abandon Rambo like what happened with him. He feels that Rambo is a part of who he is. Iconically, the key to the character is not apparent in the external aspects nor the dialogue. The film and the character are unique because of the hidden meanings behind words”.
Actress Rakeen Saad noted,
“The character of Asmaa is so influential in the events. She is strong because of how she overcame multiple obstacles in her life. However, she is so sensitive.
Indeed, it is a totally different character from the works I presented before. She is also a very relatable person; we all meet such characters in the street in our daily life. The film surely would work in cinemas, not just film festivals”.
With his debut acting experience, Sharmoofers lead singer; Ahmed Bahaa, said,
“Director Khaled Mansour approached me to be a part of this film nearly two years ago, informing me it was his debut in feature narratives. He told me the film’s story over the phone.
At first, I was so worried, for it is a huge responsibility. But hearing Khaled talk about the film, I sensed his passion. The same passion we talk about Sharmoofers with. You can never miss this energy if you’ve experienced it before. That’s what gave me the confidence to be a part in the film”.
Director and Co- writer Khaled Mansour stated,
“Through Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo, I seek to present unique and genuine cinema. Over the last decade, there has been a considerable gap between what is presented to mass audiences as commercial cinema, mainly action and comedy genres and the distinguished works presented by filmmakers in limited capacities.
I wanted to present a film that I will be proud to watch in 15 years; a film that speaks to the audience’s feelings, expresses them, and remains influential over time”.
Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo is in the official competition of the 24th CINEMED Film Festival in Belgium, the fourth edition of the Red Sea Film Festival in Jeddah, and Duhok International Film Festival in Iraq. It’s also in the official competition within the 35th Carthage Film Days (JCC).
“Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo” is director Khaled Mansour’s first feature-length narrative after directing a number of short films that were screened in several international and regional festivals.
It is written by screenwriter Mohamed El-Hosseiny, starring rising actor Essam Omar, as his debut cinema lead, Rakeen Saad, co-founder of the band Sharmoofers, Ahmed Bahaa, as his debut acting experience, Sama Ibrahim, and other young talents and guest stars.
The film is produced by Mohamed Hefzy through his Film Clinic and producer Rasha Hosny, who is making her debut in feature film production. Hosny has also had a successful career in film criticism and programming at several major international film festivals.
Distributed by Film Clinic Indie Distribution worldwide, Misr International Films in Egypt, and Front Row Filmed Entertainment in the GCC.
