Nour El Tayeb, Egypt’s former World No.3, captivated squash fans worldwide with her skill and charisma throughout her illustrious career spanning two decades.
Since her debut in 2004, El Tayeb soared to the top ranks, achieving a career-high No.3 position in 2018 and clinching 16 prestigious titles on the PSA Tour.
Major Victories and Milestones
Her triumphs include monumental wins at the 2017 U.S. Open and 2018 Windy City Open, and an unforgettable appearance in the 2018-19 PSA World Championships final in Chicago.
Notably, she and her husband, Ali Farag, made history by both securing major titles on the same day, marking a significant moment in squash history.
Personal Milestones and Comeback
In 2021, amidst her career, El Tayeb embraced motherhood with the birth of her daughter, Farida. Her return to competition in December 2021 at the Black Ball Open, after a 14-month hiatus, showcased her resilience as she advanced to the quarter-finals.
Despite dropping to No.81 in February 2022, she reclaimed her place in the top five after a triumphant return at the CIB Zed Open, her first title since becoming a mother.
Team and Personal Triumphs
Alongside her individual successes, El Tayeb contributed significantly to Egypt’s dominance in team squash, securing gold at multiple WSF Women’s World Team Squash Championships in 2012, 2018, and 2022.
Her final PSA Tour appearance was a testament to her enduring spirit, competing against eventual champion Nouran Gohar at the Xbox PSA World Tour Finals.
Legacy and Beyond
Throughout her career, El Tayeb contested in 31 finals, winning 299 out of 440 matches. Her journey began with a victory at the Creteil International Open in 2010 and culminated with her last title at the Squash in the Land event in March.
Her retirement marks the end of an era in squash, leaving behind a legacy of passion, resilience, and unparalleled achievements both on and off the court.
