A picture has been circulating on social media of a noon Egypt’s smart locker. The locker was found in one compound, but according to the post, it will be placed in several locations, including public malls.
While many praised the idea of noon’s smart lockers, others were confused by it. We know we were!
So we did some digging on what the whole ordeal is to know more about Smart lockers in general.
First, you should know is that smart lockers save companies much money. According to bloq.it, smart lockers save up to 53% of the total delivery cost.
Using smart lockers, couriers can deliver multiple packages in the same place, which means, they don’t need to deliver them door-to-door.
Moreover, with covid and lockdowns, most, if not all stores, are currently looking for alternatives to have less human interaction and fewer people in stores.
E-commerce has proved itself to be the best alternative, but, sadly, this means more cost for consumers due to delivery fees.
Smart lockers will have customers pay the same cost they were going to spend in a store, without actually visiting it.
Now your trip to the store will only be replaced with a trip to the locker’s location.
But let us get specific with noon Egypt’s smart lockers.
According to noon Egypt’s FAQ section, noon collect is a service exclusively for noon shipments that allows you to choose to collect your shipments from a convenient location through lockers.
Instead of delivering a package to your home or business address, you can select noon collect location and pick up your shipment at a time that’s convenient for you.
Once your package is delivered to the locker, you’ll receive an SMS with a unique pickup code that includes the address and opening times for your selected location.
When you arrive to collect your package, enter your pickup code, scan the barcode using the barcode scanner and follow the screen’s instructions.
All packages delivered to noon collect must be picked up within five days. If you’re not able to collect your package within this timeframe, the package will be returned at noon, and you will receive a full refund.
As for payment, for now, only prepaid shipments are eligible for noon collect. However, they claim to be working to integrate credit card machines to allow card-on-delivery in the future.
We’re still unsure where exactly the smart lockers will be located, but we reached out to noon and will update the locations if we receive an answer.
