The 26- year-old Egyptian player Mayar Sherif achieved a historic achievement for Egyptian tennis, crowned the Parma Open Tennis Championship title by defeating the seventh world-ranked Greek Maria Skari in two sets.
Mayar became the first Egyptian woman to win a title in the WTA (125) Championships.
With this win, Mayar Sherif entered the top 50 in the world rankings after she was ranked 74th in the world.
Additionally, she recently became the first Egyptian player in the game’s history to qualify for the Australian Open and Roland Garros.
Moreover, last year she was chosen by the International Tennis Federation as the most successful player in 2020 who benefited from the Grand Slam grant due to her rapid progress in the world rankings.
Last July, Mayar became the first Egyptian tennis player to participate in an Olympic Games in the Tokyo Olympics after winning the African Games.
She also won the title of Best Sports Achievement for the year 2020 from the Egyptian Olympic Committee.
Furthermore, she won the American Charleston Championship, but the 20-year-old’s ambition did not stop towards more success.
Also, this is the second final for Sharif in the 250 tournaments, after reaching the final of the Romanian Cluj Tournament in 2021 when she lost to German Andrea Petkovic.
Knowing that she won the Spanish Marbella and German Karlsruhe twice (125).
