In a shocking video, one of Cairo’s most popular restaurants, Le Deck at Sofitel Cairo Nile El Gezirah, was seen sinking in the Nile.
According to ArabNews.com, the restaurant sank in less than a minute.
“I was sitting on the opposite terrace having tea and smoking with my friends and at first I thought there was a fight, then I thought someone drowned and then we heard a bang, then suddenly the deck started sinking in a way that reminded me of the Titanic movie,”
a British tourist who witnessed the incident told Arab News.
Le Deck was a floating restaurant by the Nile, serving an exquisite International a La Carte menu at Sofitel Cairo Nile El Gezirah hotel. Le Deck was definitely a fan favorite in Cairo, and a favorite of ours at El-Shai.
No reports of any injuries thus far, nor has anyone from Sofitel released any statement that we know of, so it’s still unclear what caused the sinking.
Though we must say that during our last visit to the restaurant, at the beginning of July, we could really feel the movement of the floating restaurant more than before, though we didn’t feel like it would cause any danger to us.
With that said, we genuinely hope the restaurant is built back because eating there was indeed a wonderful experience. With a to-die-for view, fantastic food, and A+ drinks, the place was easily one of Cairo’s top restaurants.
Whatever the reason for the sudden ,loss of this fine venue at the SOFITEL:
will a new one be built soon?
