The short film Abu Joudy is set to make its debut at the 45th Cairo International Film Festival, competing in the Short Film category.
Directed and conceptualized by Adel Ahmed Yehia, Abu Joudy is a collaborative production by Hawadeet Films (producer Moataz Abdel Wahab), Red Star Films (producers Safi El-Din Mahmoud and Baho Bakhsh), and Garage Art Production (artist and producer Ahmed Magdy). The film features cinematography by Disha Hesham, art direction by Noura Fawzi, and editing by Mohamed Mamdouh, with performances by Emad Ghoneim and young talent Jana.
Set over the course of a single day, Abu Joudy follows 10-year-old Joudy as she spends the day with her father at work, exploring the streets of Cairo on his motorcycle. Yet, one unforeseen event changes their bond forever.
Director Adel Ahmed Yehia, born in 1990, is a graduate of the High Cinema Institute’s directing department. His debut short film, Nada (2018), was his graduation project and won multiple awards at international and local festivals. Yehia is currently working on his first feature-length film, often drawn to explore everyday human issues that go unnoticed but reveal deeper layers upon reflection.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Yehia shared his excitement about screening Abu Joudy at the Cairo Festival. He looks forward to engaging with Egyptian audiences and receiving their feedback before the film embarks on its global journey.
