The Embassy of Italy in Cairo, in partnership with Cairo Design Week (CDW) and Young Architects Competition (YAC), has recently announced the launch of an international design competition titled “Eterna Bellezza – Eternal Beauty.”
The competition aims to discover and showcase the talents of young Italian and Egyptian designers, with a focus on creating objects inspired by the common trait of Egyptian and Italian creative expression – the ambition for eternity.
The winners of the competition will receive cash prizes and have the opportunity to showcase their designs at the second edition of the Cairo Design Week, scheduled for November 2023.
Italian Design Day Celebration
The competition was announced on the occasion of the Italian Design Day, during an event held on March 20th, 2023, at the Embassy of Italy in Cairo. The event was attended by H.E. Michele Quaroni, the Ambassador of Italy to Egypt, Hisham Mahdy, Founder of CDW, Alessandro Cecchini, Founder of YAC, and other notable personalities from the media world, as well as famous designers and architects.
The Objectives of the Competition
The primary objective of the “Eterna Bellezza – Eternal Beauty” competition is to identify and enhance the talent of young Italian and Egyptian designers by providing them with a prestigious platform to showcase their designs. The competition also aims to foster the artistic, cultural, and architectural cooperation between Italy and Egypt.
The Inspiration behind the Competition
The competition is inspired by a common trait of Italian and Egyptian creative expression, which is the ambition for eternity. The designs are expected to create something that can take on the challenge of time, transcending fashion and exerting an ever-present appeal.
Criteria for Participation
The competition is open to young Italian and Egyptian designers who are passionate about creating products that reflect the spirit of the competition. Participants are required to design an object that is inspired by the common trait of Egyptian and Italian creative expression: the ambition for eternity. The design must be original and should not have been previously published or submitted to any other competition.
To participate in the competition, designers are required to submit their designs via the CDW-YAC digital platform.
Jury and Prizes
The jury for the competition includes professional and renowned designers from Italy and Egypt, such as Alberto Meda, Piero Lissoni, Patricia Viel, Elena Salmistraro, Amr Helmy, Raef Fahmy, Cherif Morsi, and Karim Rashid. The winners of the competition will receive cash prizes and the opportunity to showcase their designs in the Italian pavilion during the second edition of CDW.
