Egypt returns the summer working hours for shops, restaurants, malls, and cafes from the 7th of May 2022 until the last Thursday of September 2022, according to a decision issued by the country’s Local Development Minister Mahmoud Shaarawy.
The working hours will be as follow:
First: Shops and Malls
The opening hours of shops and malls will be daily from 7 AM to 11 PM. These timings will be increased on Thursdays and Fridays, and official holidays until midnight.
Second: Restaurants and Cafes
The opening hours of restaurants, cafes, and bazaars, including those in malls, will be daily from 5 AM to 1 AM. However, they will be allowed to run delivery and takeout services around the clock.
Third: Workshops and Handicrafts shops
The opening hours for all workshops and handicraft shops inside residential areas will be daily from 8 AM to 7 PM, with an exception allowed for those on highways, fuel stations, and urgent services.
Fourth: Supermarkets, groceries, bakeries, and pharmacies can operate around the clock and are excluded from the decision.
Fifth: The shops located in the coastal governorates
The opening hours for shops in coastal governorates can be modified by a decision from the country’s Local Development Minister (Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Licensing Public Shops) if proposed by the governor or the head of the New Urban Communities Authority.
Moreover, the country’s Local Development Minister Mahmoud Sharawy directed the governors to apply the requirements and instructions regarding adherence to the precautionary and preventive measures for the Coronavirus issued by the Supreme Committee for the Management of the Epidemic and Health Pandemic Crisis headed by the Prime Minister, to preserve the safety and health of citizens.
