Art is stepping up for gender equality at our gallery once again after “My Favorite Things”!
In collaboration with the Spanish Cooperation in Egypt and Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain in Cairo, Mashrabia Gallery (@mashrabiagallery) is celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD) this year by gladly hosting the “Drawing Equality” Exhibition from the 2nd till the 8th of March at our space Mashrabia Annex in 10 Mahmoud Bassiouny St., 6th Floor, Downtown.
Drawing Equality is a shared learning experience in which the participants explore how gender and gender inequality has an impact on their artistic work, and how their work can have, in turn, an effect in achieving gender equality. Through different activities, the artists take a critical stance to better understand the gender stereotypes in place in the visual representation of women and men. Building upon this new perspective, they can propose works that intentionally address some of the identified issues.
Since 2018, the Spanish Cooperation organizes the workshop Drawing Equality, the most recent one was conducted by Twins Cartoons, Cairo-based artists Mohamed, and Haithem El-Sehet in 2020; some of the works produced during these workshops were gathered and are currently on show.
