BFI’s London Film Festival (October 9 to 20) has announced the selection of the short film DAWN EVERY DAY by Amir Youssef to participate in the Short Films section (Wondering, Wandering). The film is set to screen on October 18.
Inspired by true events, DAWN EVERY DAY is written and directed by Amir Youssef, and produced by CATS Films. The story is set in the 1950s and revolves around Nabil, an 8-year-old boy who struggles to understand the impact of new social norms on his close friend.
“I’m very happy for everyone involved in the project and worked hard to make this film the best it could be. I’m also thrilled that the film will represent Egypt at the London Film Festival and to engage with the international audience.” Amir Youssef comments.
The film stars child actors Cleopatra and Selim Mostafa, alongside Marwa El Sawi and Shaza Moharam. The film is produced by Norah Elkhateeb founder of CATS Films.
The crew includes director of photography Evan Weidenkeller, Production designer Asem Ali, costume designer Nashwa Maatouk, sound engineer Moataz AlQammari, colorist Logan Highlen, composer Salem Khattar, and associate producer Habiba Khedr.
Amir is an Egyptian filmmaker based in San Francisco. He strives to create unconventional stories that echo unheard voices, while drawing inspiration from the extremely rich culture of his native Egypt.
His latest short film DAWN EVERY DAY has participated in six festivals worldwide so far, with its world premiere at the Galway Film Festival in Ireland, and meanwhile in London Film Festival. Additionally, his previous films have been selected in numerous international film festivals and won awards, including the Slamdance Film Festival and the Rhode Island International Film Festival.
