Beauty blogger Menna Ashraf shared a photo session with her fans and followers, celebrating both her 30th birthday and pregnancy. Some of the pictures included her husband, where they both wore matching colors and looked all lovey-dovey and absolutely adorable.
But why are we writing about this? Apparently, many found ways to shame a successful and happy woman by telling her she should be “embarrassed” to show her pregnancy. Somehow people managed to sexualize motherhood and procreation between a married couple.
The negative comments flooded the comments section where Menna and the photographer of the session, Art House Studio, had to speak about it.
Menna said:
“Why pictures of a joyous moment like this are met with such harmful reactions?”
As for the photographer, they stated:
“I unable to comprehend how the table has turned with pages sharing the pictures and questioning how someone can take maternity pictures? We are only documenting the joy of motherhood, which is real, especially with the firstborn. Why do we always find ways to break others’ happiness?”
While we know we’re expected to go on a full rant about the situation, we’re honestly at a loss for words.
How did we get there? How did our society turn into a blob of hate, especially towards women? How is something as innocent as an upcoming mother’s happiness become sexualized and shameful?
