According to the BBC, Egyptian actor, Amir El-Masry and French-Algerian actress Sofia Boutella have been cast in SAS: Rogue Heroes by Steven Knight.
Filming is underway on BBC One drama series “SAS: Rogue Heroes,” from “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight. Based on Ben Macintyre’s best-selling book of the same name, “SAS: Rogue Heroes” is a dramatized account of how a Special Forces unit, the SAS, was formed under extraordinary events WWII.
Connor Swindells (Sex Education) will star the series as David Stirling, an eccentric young officer determined for action after being hospitalized during a training exercise accident in Cairo, 1941.
Convinced that the army commando units are failing, he formulates a radical plan to recruit the nation’s hardest and brightest troopers for a small undercover team.
Subverting all the standard rules of recent warfare, the rebellious and heroic SAS crew set a mission to create as much mayhem behind enemy lines as possible.
Leading the cast alongside Swindells are Jack O’Connell (Skins) as Paddy Mayne, Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones) as Jock Lewes, and Dominic West (The Wire) as Lieutenant Colonel Wrangel Clarke.
The six-part series will have Theo Barklem-Biggs (The First Team), Corin Silva (The Bay), Jacob Ifan (The Accident), Dónal Finn (Cursed), Jacob McCarthy (The Last Summer), Michael Schaeffer (Chernobyl), and Miles Jupp (The Great).
The series will be directed by Tom Shankland (“The Serpent”), with Stephen Smallwood (“Patrick Melrose”) as a producer, executive produced by Karen Wilson, Martin Haines, and Emma Kingsman-Lloyd for Banijay company Kudos, and Tommy Bulfin for the BBC.
It was commissioned for the BBC by Piers Wenger, director of BBC Drama, and Charlotte Moore, chief content officer. It will be distributed internationally by Banijay Rights.
Amir El-Masry is a two-time BAFTA nominee who made his movie debut in Egyptian cinema. He got his first recognition at Ramadan Abul Alamein Hamouda alongside Mohamed Henedy. His international breakout role came in early 2016 within the critically acclaimed mini-series The Night Manager alongside Tom Hiddleston and is now starring in “The One” on Netflix.
The dancer-turned-actress, Sofia Boutella, has plenty of Hollywood blockbusters beneath her belt, together with Fahrenheit 451, Atomic Blonde, and The Mummy, the place she starred alongside Tom Cruise.
