Imagine living for just 39 years and 20 years after your death; no one can even come close to how iconic your work was. That’s exactly what happened with Alaa Wali El-Din, who we don’t think anyone thinks negatively about him.
Born and raised in Egypt, Alaa Wali El-Din was among the best comedians on the screen. He started his acting career in the 1980s, but it sadly halted in 2003 due to an unfortunate deterioration in his diabetic state.
With a bright smile and unique facial expressions, Alaa Wali El-Din never failed to make anyone love him at first sight. He acted over 100 characters throughout his career, leaving us with multiple characters that stay with us forever through the screen.
To celebrate his short life, we got you five characters by Alaa Wali El-Din that will forever remain iconic.
1. Jawaher and Salah – El Nazer
El Nazer is one of the most iconic comedy movies in Egypt. The movie revolves around Salah as he tries to control his late father’s (Ashoor) school while figuring out who is trying to help him from who is trying to bring him down.
As three characters, Alaa wali El-Din played Jawaher, Salah, and Ashoor. The characters were brilliantly portrayed, specifically Jawaher, who will always be the legendary character we aspire to be one day.
His characters left us with so many memorable lines, such as, ‘انا في الشدة شديد و في القوة قوي…اوي اوي’, ‘نهارك لذيذ,’ ‘صيعني يا عاطف’; we can go on all day. Honestly, if you haven’t seen El Nazer yet, you are missing out!
2. Abood – Abood Ala El Hodood
The movie tells the story of Abood, played by Alaa Wali El-Din, who is viewed as a spoiled failure by his father. To discipline him, his father will do anything to enroll Abood in mandatory military service. So, alongside both of his friends, played by Ahmed Helmy and Karim Abdelaziz, Abood finds himself on a journey he did not anticipate.
There are several lines from the movie that stays with us through memes, like ‘قولي عملك إيه كبدي’ and ‘اخدت اعفا!’, as well as different images of Abood’s facial expressions.
The movie is a lightheaded watch that is sure to make you laugh.
3. Hatem – Alabanda
Alabanda was a theater performance that combined Alaa Wali EL-Din and Mohamed Henedy, a duo like that is sure to elicit laughter easily from the audience.
Alaa Wali El-Din played the character of the young fun man, Hatem. The play was a comedic musical with tons of funny dialogue.

4. Ali – Yawmeyat Wanis
In the early stages of the Yawmyat Wanis TV series, Alaa Wali El-Din made an appearance in one episode, giving us the memorable character of Ali. He portrayed Ali as a character that is fun and without a care in the world that turns out to be astonishingly stingy.
The episode is one of a kind and is guaranteed to entertain anyone.
5. Samir – Al Erhab wal Kabab
Even though Adel Imam’s movie ‘Al Erhab wal Kabab’ can’t be classified as pure comedy, Alaa Wali El-Din delivered the unique character of Samir in a fun manner.
Samir finds himself locked in a bank due to an attack, causing the audience to view him as someone that bad luck follows everywhere. However, despite the character being unsatisfied with his life, Alaa Wali El-Din implements some mild dark humor through Samir that is brilliantly delivered.
The character has limited screen time, but it is still worth watching.
