You’d be surprised how many artists around the globe came to visit Egypt, and a selection of them went home with more than just memories: full-blown music videos. Here are five of them that were shot in Egypt…
Shania Twain – The Woman In Me (Needs The Man In You)
Canadian music star, Shania Twain is considered the best-selling female country artist in history. If you don’t recognize her, your parents probably would! She shot her music video for “The Woman In Me (Needs The Man In You)” by the Great Pyramids of Giza and along the Nile River.
Major Lazer & Showtek – Believer
In honour of young Omran Daqneesh, the Syrian child who was photographed in 2017 during Syrian bombings, director Christopher Louie shot the music video for Major Lazer and Showtek’s “Believer” in Egypt following the struggles of a Syrian boy.
Klaxons – Echoes
English rock band, Klaxons are quite indie with the music – so indie that they went through so much trouble to shoot in Egypt. After acquiring a substantial number of permits, Klaxons were accompanied by Egyptian authorities to shoot their music video for “Echoes” in the White Desert.
KAROL G, Ovy On The Drums – Cairo
Columbian singer, Karol G is a reggaeton and Latin trap artist who’s popular for her collaboration with Nicki Minaj in “Tusa” that reached a whopping 1.3 billion views on YouTube. She shot her music video for “Cairo” in – you guessed it – Cairo, and couldn’t leave without inserting a few shots by the Great Pyramids of Giza because why not?
Sevn Alias – Mag Het ff Lekker Gaan ft. Josylvio (prod. Jack $hirak)
Dutch rapper, Sven Alias showed off our Bedouin culture with Josylvio in “Mag Het ff Lekker Gaan” which is quite the tongue twister. Try saying the title track five times without messing up!
Honourable Mentions
The following music videos were not necessarily shot on Egyptian grounds, but they paid homage to the culture somehow…
Michael Jackson – Remember The Time (Official Video)
Legendary singer/dancer, Michael Jackson seems enamored by ancient Egyptian culture in his music video for “Remember the Time,” which co-stars Eddie Murphy, Iman and Magic Johnson.
Katy Perry – Dark Horse
On the other hand, American pop star, Katy Perry threw as many references of Pharaohs as she could in her music video for “Dark Horse” that collectively screamed “culture appropriation.”
Madness – Night Boat to Cairo
This bizarre music video for “Night Boat to Cairo” by British pop band, Madness definitely lives up to the band’s name.
